Possible Cause
Rising damp is moisture present in the wall as a result of water in the ground underneath or next to the wall, rising through the wall. The water travels upwards through the wall as a result of capillary action through the brick and plaster. The water stops rising at a height where gravity counteracts the upwards force of the capillary action at approximately 1.5 meters. Rising damp problems often also occurs as a result of not having a Damp-Proof Course installed or having a DPC that is faulty due to age or inadequate installation. Paint will not adhere correctly to the surface and will cause premature peeling.
Solution
Trace and remove the source of moisture ingress by fixing the root cause of the water leak. Spray outside plaster area with to three coats of Fast WR-30 Water Repeller on to the bare substrate.
Apply on the interior wall two to three coats of Fast WR-30 Water Repeller or Fast Dampcure DPC on bare substrate.
Apply two coats of good quality paint e.g Stevensons Linen Silk or Stevensons Wallkote.
